Honestly, it’s not really fair to rank Fastlane so low, seeing as how from an in-ring perspective, it was fine, but given how angry and frustrated it left a lot of people feeling, it’s hard to give it any ranking higher than this.

At first, Fastlane started off as average-to-decent, with a very good tag title match sandwiched by an underwhelming Zayn/Joe bout and a perfunctory Sasha/Nia Jax match. Then the show really took a dive with unannounced Cesaro/Jinder Mahal and Big Show/Rusev matches taking up way more time than they needed. By this point, the audience were getting annoyed, and while Neville/Gallagher, Charlotte/Bayley, and Reigns/Strowman bumped up the in-ring quality of the show, the booking of the latter two really soured most fans’ opinion of the evening, with Reigns giving Strowman a clean pinfall loss, and Bayley unceremoniously ending Charlotte’s PPV streak.

To add the cherry on top, Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens in 22 seconds to win the Universal Championship, and thus, Fastlane cemented its status as the annual smark meltdown show. It was not a fun night to be a fan, regardless if you hated the booking or not, just because of the negativity this show created.
