Another case of a predictable Royal Rumble, with 2000 feeling like a nailed-on win for the Rock in order to get to the big Rocky vs. Triple H WWF Championship match at WrestleMania. Of course, that ‘Mania 2000 title match would bafflingly become a four-way bout, but the Great One nonetheless picked up the Rumble W that year.

The 2000 Royal Rumble is a bit of a strange one; one where nostalgia positions it as far better than it actually was. Yes, there was the fun Too Cool dance spot, and yes, there was poor Taka Michinoku’s brutal faceplant, plus there was a major pop when X-Pac eliminated Kane, but that was about it. No disrespect to the men themselves, but it says it all when Gangrel, Test, and the Big Boss Man were the only men to do 20 minutes in the match.

As a PPV, the 2000 Royal Rumble is fondly remembered for a brutal war between Triple H and Cactus Jack, an insane tables match from the Hardyz and Dudleyz, and the fantastic WWF debut of Taz(z). But the Rumble match itself? Meh, not so much. Then again, at least the Rumble match wasn’t as bad as that Miss Rumble BS…
