8. American Alpha
Even though the creative team crowned Heath Slater and Rhyno as the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions, they were building up American Alpha as the next big thing in the division. Jason Jordan and Chad Gable had an impressive run in NXT, and after earning a promotion, they dominated their antagonists on the blue brand. Following a brief rivalry with The Usos, American Alpha entered the title picture.
They seized the gold with a massive victory against The Wyatt Family, The Usos, and Heath Slater and Rhyno in a fatal four-way tag team elimination match. Jordan and Gable had the onus of taking the division to the next level because they were the first real team to win the belts.
Unfortunately, WWE did not give them the right amount of spotlight. American Alpha defeated the top teams of the 'B' show in a Tag Team Turmoil at Elimination Chamber. However, the duo did not get a place on the Royal Rumble match card while the writers took the titles off them before WrestleMania 33.
Also, none of their rivalries made SmackDown a 'must-watch' show. Their bouts were average, and there was zero character development. Jordan and Gable never regained their momentum after dropping the championships. The backstage officials soon disintegrated the team.
