Ranking Every WWE Title Change On Raw
3. CM Punk Def. Edge (30 June 2008)
Money in the Bank cash-ins, how and wherever they come about, are almost always surprising - but few have been quite as jaw-dropping as CM Punk ambushing Edge during a special episode of Monday Night Raw in June 2008.
This was shocking for a couple of reasons. First, Punk became the first face to use his title shot opportunistically, rather than - as Rob Van Dam did in 2006 - respectfully schedule a match with the reigning champion at an event of his choosing.
There were also very few clues in the weeks leading up to it that the Straight-Edge Superstar was being groomed as a potential world champion. He had only just been drafted to Raw, after spending much of the previous few months jobbing to Chavo Guerrero on ECW.
Granted, the title reign that followed was desperately disappointing. Punk lost the belt at Unforgiven after being attacked backstage by Randy Orton; an ending which set his career back a solid 12 months (and probably played a large part in the lingering resentment towards company officials that would grow in the years ahead).
