The Invasion Angle was mostly underwhelming, but that doesn't mean that it didn't produce one or two memorable moments. Take, for example, the WWF Title match between Kurt Angle and Alliance defector Stone Cold on the 8 October episode of Raw.

Here, the Texas Rattlesnake emerged with victory after an assist from turncoat commissioner William Regal, a thrilling climax to one of the most incident-packed main events we're ever likely to see on free television.

The match wasn't short of quality either. Austin and Angle always shared a natural chemistry in the ring, and with the former this time playing the role of the heel, it seemed fresh and exciting even though we'd seen them battle plenty of times before.

Give an enormous amount credit to Earl Hebner too. The way he sells his bump after "clashing heads" (or, rather, shoulders) with Kurt Angle made this one of the few occasions on which you could honestly say it was realistic that he would be knocked out for the bout's pivotal moment.
