Ranking Every WWE Title Change On Raw
1. Mankind Def. The Rock (4 January 1999)
Nearly a full 20 years later, Mankind's January 1999 victory over The Rock still ranks as the undisputed best WWE Championship win in the history of Monday Night Raw. In fact, if you were to put this as at the number one title change in the company's history then few could really complain.
There are so many reasons this stands out as the best, not least of all the fact that it turned out to be one of the great turning points of the Monday Night Wars. Tony Schiavone reading out the Raw spoilers - and, in the process, encouraging thousands to switch over to the competition - was a costly mistake for Eric Bischoff's WCW.
But, even in its own right, this was pretty incredible. Mankind, a rough-around-the-edges every-man, was exactly the sort of person who probably wouldn't have held WWE's biggest prize were he competing a decade earlier.
As Michael Cole pointed out, it was also a life-affirming title win for fans watching at home who had been told that their dreams weren't worth chasing. If Mrs Foley's Baby Boy could become Vince McMahon's franchise player, then anything seemed possible. Wrestling only occasionally evokes real emotion - but here it did.
