In yet another attempt to stack the odds so insurmountably against Roman Reigns that you had to cheer him, WWE booked the Big Dog to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against 29 other men at the 2016 Royal Rumble.

While the former Shield member would so nearly emerge victorious after entering at #1, he'd end up eliminated second-to-last by eventual winner Triple H - with Hunter tossing out Dean Ambrose to become the new WWE Champ.

Royal Rumble matches have been such a mixed bag over the years, but the 2016 Rumble was one of the better ones. The big criticism was Reigns being absent from the match for a good chunk, yet the positives were this bout set up several WrestleMania matches, saw AJ Styles debut, and also had Brock Lesnar give a few faces the 'rub' merely for interacting with him.

Interestingly, this Rumble contest also whet the appetite for fans to see Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose, which is a bout that took place at the Roadblock special just three weeks ahead of WrestleMania 32 - with the Game of course retaining the WWE Title there ahead of facing Reigns at that year's 'Mania.
