There's always going to be a sense of subjectivity to any list like this, particularly when we get to the #1 spot.

When looking at what makes for a great WrestleMania for the WWE Title, one has to consider the stars involved in said bout, the in-ring work of the contest, the sense of grandeur surrounding the match, the hype generated on the Road to WrestleMania, the crowd involvement, and the buzz generated both in the wrestling business and in the mainstream.

In that regard, the Rock vs. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin at WrestleMania X-Seven delivered hard on all fronts.

This was arguably the two biggest names in the history of the industry - certainly the two hottest stars of the industry's hottest period, at least - headlining the Showcase of the Immortals in the ultimate Babyface vs. Babyface contest in front of a white-hot Houston crowd.

The Limp Bizkit-soundtracked hype around this was off the scale, but it wasn't just hype and crowd investment that carried the bout, for the in-ring work was also of an extremely high level as these two long-time rivals did battle once again.

Of course, Stone Cold turning heel and aligning with Vince McMahon to make sure he got the W was a stupid move in hindsight. Still, at the time that was a major deal that became watercooler talk in the immediate aftermath of 'Mania X-Seven - even if nobody wanted to boo Austin at this time.
