Where: No Mercy 2002.

What a terrible idea this was.

WWE might not give a toss about it, but wrestling fans still adore the Intercontinental Title. It's viewed favourably due to former status as a "workhorse belt", and that hasn't changed despite decades of poor booking. Back at No Mercy 2002, Triple H beat Kane to amalgamate the World Heavyweight and IC crowns.

People dumped all over this at the time, and history hasn't been kind to it. Evolution was taking shape, so Ric Flair helped Trips off someone 'The Game' had erm...outed as a possible necrophiliac. Yeah, the story was bad, and the fact that WWE ditched the Intercontinental prize made things worse.

The company didn't even stick to this unification. They had then-co-Raw GM (alongside Eric Bischoff) Steve Austin bring the thing back in May 2003, and everybody acted like nothing had happened. Basically, in other words, this was totally pointless and booked for the sake of it.
