Placed in the middle of this list because that's exactly where it belongs, the Iron Man Match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels was neither a dynamic dispute nor a disparate disappointment, despite various parties having arguments for both.

Bret considers it his literal finest hour, but 'The Hitman's recollection of looking at the arena clock and seeing the exact time he expected with around ten minutes remaining is ironically what undermines its appeal. The two worked their formula to the letter seemingly keener to get through it rather entertain during it.

Vince McMahon had every right to promote 1996 Bret Hart Vs 1996 Shawn Michaels as the best match in the entire world before it happened. It's the shame they ignored their own innate abilities to make it so special.
