Ranking John Cena's WrestleMania Matches - From Worst To Best

2. Vs. The Rock - WrestleMania XXVIII

Once in a Lifetime! Once in a Lifetime! Okay, all gripes about that aside this was absolutely awesome. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a technical masterpiece, but it was two genuine icons facing off on the biggest stage after a whole 12 months of build, so by the time the bell rang the tension was intense, to say the least. It was The Rock's first singles match in forever, against the biggest star of the generation that followed him. It was a perfect storm, if you will. Watching this live, the finish both shocked and amazed me in equal measure. I was convinced that Cena would win, so when Rock jumped out to deliver one final Rock Bottom after Cena got a bit cocky in attempting to deliver a People's Five Knuckle Shuffle, I responded in the same way the live crowd did. It was a great moment. Another excellent aspect of the match was that Cena was working as a de-facto heel, and some of his work in this respect is vastly underrated. Throw whatever criticism you like at John Cena, the man knows how to work a crowd. He was against The Rock in Dwayne's hometown, and put on a performance perfect for that spot.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
