Ranking The Biggest Rivalries In Wrestling Every Year 1990-2020

25. 1996 - World Championship Wrestling Vs The New World Order

Eric Bischoff Scott Hall

Eric Bischoff always had the idea that he could eventually create two entirely separate organisations in WCW and the nWo under the Turner umbrella, and it was this ethos from the very beginning that powered the amazing and transformational group.

Combining the shock of ship-jumping by Scott Hall and Kevin Nash with Hulk Hogan's unthinkable heel turn, the story was perfectly balanced with the tone and register of war that had raged in wrestling since the debut of Nitro the prior year - but the angle ensured only WCW would profit from it.

An insanely prosperous period followed, but never were the twists and turns as potent as in those early few months. Sting was chased into the shadows by the mistrust of his colleagues, The Four Horseman aged a thousand years, and the return of Roddy Piper highlighted the drawing potential of flipping Hogan's old feuds as he donned this shocking new guise.
