A man you didn't know was highly influential - his merch table hustle inspired the Young Bucks to totally transform the pro wrestling industry - El Generico was an elusive, outsize character in a scene of real name workrate lads.

With a bravura ability to project emotion through the mask, that mask was excellent in its design in that it was a face, somehow really endearing, and not a bit of fabric designed to obscure one.

The look also worked for its signature quality - the red, white and black colour palette was not remotely generic, ironically - and it proved so captivating that it's little wonder he outsold all of his peers.
