Ranking What Was REALLY The Best Wrestling PPV Every Year 1990-2020
13. 2008 - WWE WrestleMania XXIV
The best show of 2008 and the most underrated of all the WrestleManias, XXIV was a perfectly sequenced and tonally rich masterclass. It capped off quite wonderfully the high-end fare, proving also that this was an underrated phase of WWE's faded long-form storytelling prowess. Oh, and Triple H Vs. Randy Orton Vs. John Cena happened as well.
That was a fun enough match elevated by the spectacle and the occasion, but in the Undertaker Vs. Edge, and Shawn Michael Vs. Ric Flair, WWE delivered two psychological classics in which Edge used a scintillating series of counters to sell us on the death of the Streak, and we all cheered Ric Flair, working full heel, because there was such immense pathos to his desperation.
The undercard was a lot of fun; the Belfast Brawl opener packed in several modes of schadenfreude (lol Hornswoggle) and Money In The Bank yielded several cool moments and a very popular new addition to the main event scene.
Perhaps that storytelling wasn't underrated, come to think of it.
