Ranking What Was REALLY The Best Wrestling PPV Every Year 1990-2020

2. 2019 - AEW Double Or Nothing

TakeOver: New York was an unreal show with a main event finishing sequence as dramatic as anything ever witnessed in pro wrestling - but Double Or Nothing felt like it needed to happen. It felt like something had been willed into existence - actual wrestling, again - as the best version of itself.

What AEW did with Double Or Nothing was pinpoint almost everything that was missing from North American wrestling, and deliver it wonderfully: the territorial bloodbath worked with real, literally pouring emotion; exhilarating tag team wrestling of epic, main event length; an international flavour, in the six-woman joshi tag, that we'd not seen since the heyday of the Nitro cruisers; and, in the most amazing echo of a bygone time, the major, major jump of Jon Moxley breathing in the air of a new, unscripted life setting up a monster PPV match in an earth-shaking closing angle.

The start of something 20 years overdue, Double Or Nothing was something far more than even a masterpiece.
