Ranking WWE's 12 PPVs In 2014

2. SummerSlam (August 17)

Best Matches: Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena, Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton Worst Match: Rusev vs. Jack Swagger It's no surprise that SummerSlam was a very good show because it usually is. It is one of WWE's big three PPVs along with the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania so there's always a special level of importance placed on the event. Since it comes over four months after WrestleMania, plans are usually in place long term leading up to the event, which often means a well booked show. There really weren't any match of the year contenders at SummerSlam, but Brock Lesnar's win over John Cena was the most dominant victory in a WWE Title match perhaps of all time. The fact that it came against Cena, who is always booked really strong, is even more impressive. Lesnar's 16 German Suplexes leading to the final F5 was an emphatic victory for the beast. The Rollins/Ambrose Lumberjack Match was a lot of fun, which is a rare thing to say about one of those matches. They are often times very boring. Reigns' win over Orton was huge for Reigns and was the single biggest win of the year for Reigns. When mentioning the worst match, Rusev vs. Swagger wasn't even that bad. That's what made SummerSlam good. Nothing was that bad. It was a very solid show from top to bottom although it did lack one of those special matches that we'll talk about forever.
