12. Payback

What happened: Roman Reigns's first major post-WrestleMania title defense came against AJ Styles, who had impressed management enough that he had been pushed further up the card than originally planned. The result was a strong Payback main event, despite the fact that it had to be restarted twice - once after Reigns was counted out, and again after he was disqualified. There was a lot of intrigue surrounding whether or not Styles would align himself with The Club, or if Finn Balor would debut. In the end, Reigns beat Styles, and the camera cut backstage, where Shane and Stephanie McMahon immediately booked a rematch for the main event of the next show.

Why it sucked: Fans were hoping for a lot out of this match, both in terms of quality and storyline progression, and while they got the former, there was none of the latter. That's all well and good - that's what rematches are for - but announcing the rematch just seconds after the bout concluded rather than building to it organically made it feel like everything that had just happened was meaningless. Ultimately, that turned out to be true.
