Everybody fancies themselves as a fantasy booker. The collective Wrestling Internet constantly projects fantasy scenarios onto WWE, for fun or as an exercise in catharsis—but the true genius behind the Firefly Fun House is that nobody else could conceive of it. Many fans, desperate for the performer to succeed, petitioned for the reformation of the Wyatt Family, or a return to the backwoods cult leader that first generated serious buzz around the nascent NXT brand. Nobody could conceive of this hip-hop dancing, gee-whizz monstrosity.

Only Bray Wyatt.

Not Vince McMahon.

The Firefly Fun House vignettes were produced in collaboration with director Jason Barker. Speaking to Justin LaBar on his Wrestling Reality podcast, Barker revealed that he was allowed to “run with it” in tandem with eager collaborator Wyatt, whom Barker put over as “very, very smart—smarter than a lot of people give him credit for.”

“You think you’re going to throw an idea at him, he comes back with eight,” Barker continued.

Many fans have compared Wyatt to Waylon Mercy and the Undertaker. Barker reckons more lofty comparisons are in order.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work on films with Russell Crowe, and Tom Cruise and Will Smith and a bunch of others working here in the Pittsburgh film industry. His mindset for his character development is on par with those guys.”

This all but confirmed that Wyatt has enjoyed a rare agency in his rehabilitation of the character. This much is evident, really, from just how incredibly creative it is. From just how not sh*t it is.

Wyatt has developed this character by scorching the man we once knew. Barker worked with legendary prosthetic artist Tom Savini to create the various puppet friends that double as symbols of Wyatt’s history.
