Real Reason WWE Suspended Drew McIntyre REVEALED (WWE News)

Top SmackDown star Drew McIntyre is expected to be out of action for a while.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Drew McIntyre has been written off WWE television for one very simple reason: The big Scot is about to go film a movie. He'll star as Connor MacLeod's brother Angus in the latest Highlander flick, and he's expected to start shooting scenes for that imminently.

That's why the company booked GM Nick Aldis to suspend McIntyre for attacking referee Dan Engler on Friday's episode of SmackDown. Drew was mad at Engler for apparently screwing him over vs. Cody Rhodes at the latest Saturday Night's Main Event, so he ran in on SmackDown's headliner between Cody and Aleister Black to level the ref with a Claymore Kick.

Minutes later, Aldis emerged to announce that he was sick and tired of McIntyre's unruly behaviour. So, "effective immediately", he decided to suspend the heel until further notice. That'll give Drew plenty of time to do his thing as one of MacLeods over in Hollywood. Rather conveniently, it'll also let Jacob Fatu heal up - there's still unfinished business between those guys on WWE TV.

The Observer noted that McIntyre will be gone for a while. There's currently no known timescale on just how long he'll be absent from Raw/SmackDown/WWE PLE.

This is Drew's latest stab at the acting game. He previously appeared as a hitman who was hired to target Batista's character Joe Flood in 2024's The Killer's Game. That went well. The Scottish vibes to Highlander obviously make this franchise a solid fit for McIntyre too.

So, to summarise, it'll be a while before anyone sees Drew hit a Claymore Kick on WWE screens. Perhaps he'll smash somebody with one on the silver screen though.
