Certain wrestlers released by WWE in 2021 face an anxious visa situation over the next few months.
The issue impacts wrestlers who aren’t United States citizens. Fightful have spoken to several members of the impacted group, who have explained that upon being released by WWE, they have around five months to address their visa situation.
Individuals have 60 days upon their contract’s expiration to either find new work or make other preparations. The rest of the aforementioned five-month period comes from the wrestlers’ 90-day non-compete clauses, during which they are still technically under WWE contract.
Per Fightful, this is a major concern even for the foreign wrestlers released by WWE who will be in the most demand.
2021 has been a year of mass cuts for Vince McMahon’s promotion, with over 50 wrestlers let go by the company, the majority of which have been attributed to “budget cuts”. The likes of Buddy Murphy, The IIconics, and Chelsea Green are amongst the non-US citizens in that group. There is currently no word visa situations relating to specific talents, however.
Sadly, recent reporting suggests that WWE may not be done trimming its talent roster this year.
