Report: Released WWE Star Has Non-Compete Clause Shortened
The released WWE wrestler in question could now turn up elsewhere sooner rather than later.
One recently released WWE wrestler has had their company standard non-compete clause shortened by the promotion, reports Fightful Select.
While there's currently no word on who, exactly, the talent in question might be, the report notes that at least one cut WWE wrestler has been given an "early out." WWE was even reportedly willing to cancel the non-compete entirely, though this didn't come to fruition.
WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis is believed to have been "very easy to deal with" in negotiations.
Fightful Select reported a couple of weeks ago that several wrestlers let go by WWE recently had asked the promotion to get out of their non-compete clauses, which prevent released wrestlers from legally signing with or appearing for another company for a set period, usually 90 days.
2021 has been a year of roster trimming for WWE, with the promotion making swathes of cuts in April, May, and now June. Mickie James, Samoa Joe (who has since returned), Braun Strowman, and Aleister Black are amongst the biggest names cut, with last week bringing the latest round of releases as 14 NXT and 205 Live wrestlers left the company.
