Rey Fenix's protracted exit from AEW may finally be on the horizon.

Per Dr. Chris Featherstone, new talks have taken place between Fenix and AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan. They could be resolved soon, with Khan reportedly advised to end the saga.

"AEW sources have informed me that negotiations between Tony Khan and Rey Fenix to end Fenix's tenure with the company are progressing, and resolution is expected to happen soon," tweeted Featherstone on Thursday. "I was also informed that Tony Khan has been heavily advised to "put an end to this" soon regarding Fenix's holding period."

Fenix has not wrestled for AEW since the 20 July episode of Collision. He is currently in a contract dispute with the promotion, who have added almost a year to his deal due to time missed through injuries (per the Wrestling Observer). Fenix's contract was originally set to expire parallel with his brother Penta's on 30 November. Penta has since jumped to WWE, with Fenix expected to follow after becoming a free agent.

In January, AEW pulled Fenix's merch from their online stories. The Lucha Brother has not been shy of expressing his frustration during his absence, alluding to receiving "inhumane treatment" in a since-deleted tweet and claiming "I needed a doctor and you ignored me for months."

News of talks between Khan and Fenix comes in the same week that AEW has released fellow wantaway stars Malakai Black, Ricky Starks, and Miro. Starks has already debuted for WWE on this week's NXT.
