Roman Reigns & Paul Heyman Were Behind WrestleMania 39's Finish
The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter also revealed scrapped 'Mania 40 plans for The Rock.
Roman Reigns & Paul Heyman convinced Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque to go with the former conquering Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39.
That's according to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, with it being noted by Dave Meltzer that a major reason many folks within WWE were pushing for 'The American Nightmare' to get his rematch at 'Mania 40 was due to Cody being promised that match after Reigns & Heyman had successfully convinced McMahon and Levesque to change the finish of the Los Angeles 'Show of Shows'.
Their thinking was that allowing Reigns to come out on top in that match would both help stars like Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa and more get over going forward, and make Roman's main event dance partner an even bigger star if they held off that massive title switch for another year.
Elsewhere, Meltzer would also report that there were once other plans for The Rock for WrestleMania 40.
At one stage, there was apparently an idea involving 'The Great One' defeating his cousin Reigns for the title before vacating the belt and riding back to Hollywood after bringing that gigantic run to an end. From here, he would continue calling himself 'The People's Champion', with the belt, which would ultimately still debut at this year's Hall of Fame, ceremony then being introduced by Rocky.
Sure that storyline would have gone down an absolute treat. And unsurprisingly, there were reportedly many behind-the-scenes who were fighting against this Rock title win, feeling that Rhodes simply had to be the one to bring Roman's reign to an end.
'The Final Boss' WWE story doesn't appear to be over by any means, though, and it remains to be seen how things will develop when The Rock makes his inevitable return to TV down the road.
