Fightful Select has provided a major update on the contractual status of Santos Escobar.

It appears that's officially a wrap on Escobar's time in WWE. His deal with the market leader has expired, and he'll likely be popping up elsewhere on the wrestling map sometime soon. According to reports, the promotion did make an attempt to lock Santos down to a new deal - WWE even offered improved terms/a raise, but the wrestler knocked those back.

Escobar's issue with signing a new contract seemed to be creative more than financial. In fact, Fightful's write up outright said that there was "creative dissatisfaction" on his side. From the outside looking in (beyond Fightful's report), that's likely to have existed for a while.

Santos hasn't worked a match for WWE since he and then-Legado Del Fantasma cohorts Angel and Berto lost to Mr. Iguana, Psycho Clown and Pagana at a beefed up house show in Mexico City on 27 July. Before that, his latest match on mainline WWE television came with a defeat to Rey Fenix on the 2 May episode of SmackDown.

In truth, Escobar's prospects had been fading throughout 2025. He'd only wrestled 4 times on major programming/PLE, and had been deployed as more of a manager for Angel and Berto than anything else. For some reason, WWE completely gave up on pushing him after a 2023 heel turn on old mentor Rey Mysterio.

Fightful's report included word that Santos is "expected to be in demand" going forwards. There's no news quite yet on exactly where he could end up, but the man shouldn't be short of options.
