3. Scott Steiner vs. Ric Flair - Clash Of The Champions XIV 1991
Around this time, the word was that Dusty Rhodes was pushing hard for Steiner to become the World Champion. Steiner's side is that he didn't want the belt because it would split his team with his brother. Flair has been accused of dogging it in the match to make Steiner look bad, while others say the match exposed Steiner to a degree. Accounts and opinions vary, but the consensus is that this is a match that should have been great, but wound up being just okay. Neither man's strengths were on display here. Steiner's impactful offense was grounded for the majority of the match, and Flair's selling, which is normally his strong suit, just seems off. He doesn't do a great job of putting over Steiner's suplexes and Flair's admission that he was battling anxiety and depression around this time would seem to explain his lacking a step. There were several botches and time mismanagement issues and the two just didn't have much chemistry in the ring. On the bright side, this match led to Steiner's intense dislike of Flair, which gave us some classic promos, so I'd say it's a fair trade-off.
