Should AEW Sign Shane McMahon?

Now for the negatives, and they're abundant.

This isn't 1999. Hell, it isn't even 2016 when the idea of Shane wrestling regularly didn't seem too preposterous. He's 54 years old now, so the thought of McMahon leaping from high places to perform jaw-dropping stunts is risky. Put it this way: Shane hurt himself performing a rudimentary leapfrog during an abandoned match vs. The Miz at WrestleMania 39.

He tore his quads and had to be replaced by Snoop Dogg (of all people). There's the daft nature of wrestling in a nutshell, eh? Worse, many fans were actually glad that Shane was taken out of the firing line quickly, because there was pretty much zero zest for his impromptu match vs. Miz to begin with anyway.

Then, there's the ego. Shane was canned by his own father after an embarrassing lack of self-awareness during the 2022 Royal Rumble. Apparently, Shane believed he should dominate the rest of the field and even go toe-to-toe with walking brick wall Brock Lesnar. That irked a lot of folks behind the curtain.

McMahon's ego, when left unchecked, is prone to running away with itself. Tony Khan hasn't shown the strongest leadership when faced with that sort of thing before, so it's difficult to imagine he'd be able to keep Shane at arm's length.

The last thing AEW needs is more backstage shenanigans, especially after the epic CM Punk vs. The Elite saga that ended with Tony saying he feared for his life.

Most signings are a gamble, but Shane O-Mac becoming #AllElite in 2024 would have to be considered one of the biggest risks ever. Over to you, Tony. Roll the dice, or let Shane's reported interest fizzle out.
