However, theres good reason for it, as it was easily the worst moment of Austins career up until that point. However, what no one knew at the time was that it would become the catalyst that would eventually launch Austin into the stratosphere. Austin had gotten injured during a match in Japan and as a result, spent much of his time in 1995 recuperating at home. WCWs President, Eric Bischoff, came to the conclusion that Austin was not a marketable star for the companys future -- Bischoff instead focused on acquiring former Federation superstars. As has been stated before, Easy E proceeded to fire Austin over the telephone. Theres easily no worse moment in someones professional career than being fired. However, Austin quickly turned a negative into a positive when he was given the opportunity by his former manager, Paul Heyman, to join Extreme Championship Wrestling and air his grievances. What occurred next would be the spiritual precursor to the Stone Cold character that made Austin a mega-star. Despite everything working out for the best, Stunning Steve Austin being fired from World Championship Wrestling was the worst moment of his career down South. What if Austin was never let go? Would he have eventually become the Texas Rattlesnake or have floundered in relative midcard obscurity in WCW?
