Steve Maclin Interview: IMPACT Wrestling, The Forgotten Sons, Bound For Glory, And More!
Where did the inspiration come for that, for the Mayhem For All 'persona' if you will?
Maclin: More or less, I fell in love with the Punisher show. It's really a big play as to who the Punisher is and kind of taking a little bit of that character and then also with my military background, kind of mixing them both together. It's a pitch I did years ago with that previous company that I was with that was pretty much shut down, so it was one of those things where what was the best version of me to put out there that is realistic, that isn't a full-on gimmick but people can relate to and how can I interact with an audience. Slowly, the way that this is going and the way that IMPACT is helping me with creative, I love it. It's sort of an even flow of how we all see on the same side of it and there are lots of layers to touch on to, which I'm looking forward to, and to be able to sink my teeth into a feud and storylines down the road is what I'm really inspired to do.
So since coming in, you've developed this new style. You've got the Mayhem For All reverse brainbuster, the tree of woe Spear in the corner. So did you feel it was important to change your style to separate Steve Maclin from Steve Cutler?
Maclin: No, the style is very similar. I'm a very straightforward human being in my personal life and in the wrestling ring, I'm always going to be moving forward, it'll take a lot to keep me down. I love to be in control, and in the previous company and where I've wrestled before, it's the same style as well. Slowing things down and being methodical is what I'm all about, I'm very persistent on what I want to do. I have an idea and a lot of time, I kind of know what I plan to do later on before my opponent ever does.
So I'm a big music guy, I've always got something on in the background. Your new entrance song; what was the process behind that? Were you involved with the artist? It starts nice then it builds up perfectly to you coming out, so yeah, were you involved in that process or did the artist get more control?
Maclin: That was very back and forth with Matt Koon, who created my music. We worked together on that, and it was a process to say the least because you want to try to time it out. Entrance music was always the one thing for me, the entrance in general of being a wrestling fan, that makes everything. The music, the vibe, the pyro. Granted, we don't have that at certain aspects right now, but eventually down the road, you aspire to have that. It was fun to go off of different vibes and bands. Mostly, the take I took for the song was from the band HELLYEAH. They had one of the songs that I really liked the vibe to, so I was like how can we make this but my own. He threw something back at me, and then it was just mixing and matching, just like a puzzle piece of where to put this or that in the song. Now I'm trying to work with lyrics and play with it as well to add on down the road, but yeah, it was a lot of fun to create my own music and be a part of that.
