Steve Maclin Interview: IMPACT Wrestling, The Forgotten Sons, Bound For Glory, And More!
I just wanted to get started by asking you about the X Division Championship, you'll be fighting for that this weekend. As far as I'm concerned, that's quite a prestigious title, guys like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, even now guys like Josh Alexander, look at the run he's just had. Do you feel pressure if you win the match to continue on that legacy?
Maclin: No, I think I've hit the ground running since I've got with IMPACT Wrestling and I said what my goal was, and that was to be the X Division Champion. For me, that's just the target. Once you have that title around your waist, that is the target that everyone wants to come after and that's what I love. There's no pressure, that just ups the ante for me. It makes me work even harder.
When did you know IMPACT was the right place for you after you were let go from your previous job?
Maclin: Just for the culture of being around there. I went with Deonna after I was let go from the previous company that I was with. It was just the atmosphere, everybody there, the vibe, the locker room, I knew a majority of the guys already too, I've either worked with them or they had their tryouts in the other company. We all had met down the road, I just kind of hit it off with Tommy Dreamer, D'Lo, Scott, and it's just been great ever since. Up and down the roster, the locker room is amazing.
Speaking of that roster, they've brought in a bunch of new people, just recently it was announced that the IInspiration are coming in now at Bound For Glory, going straight for the Knockouts Tag Team Titles. Again, just how did that feel, because you were actually built up with the video packages rather than being a surprise appearance so people knew you were coming in?
Maclin: More pressure on my end to actually show out. It was a little different with having no audience at that time to debut, that was a different take for me just because here I am trying something new, trying to be a new persona that I want to dive myself into of being Steve Maclin. It was good. It was fun to have my own creation from when I was let go from the previous company to have the videos that I took the time to go do and shoot my own vignettes. For IMPACT to then just use the idea that I put out there, I carried that ball and started to run with it.
