6. Steve Austin vs. Chris Benoit (WWE SmackDown May 31, 2001)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xz5pic_austin-vs-benoit-5-31-01_sport When Chris Benoit made the jump to the WWF in early 2000, Steve Austin was out for an extended amount of time due to neck surgery. Austin and Benoit had long been considered a dream match for wrestling geeks, so fans counted down the days to a possible encounter between these two greats. The first high profile encounters came in tag matches, most notably the incredible tag team match between Austin/Triple H and Benoit/Jericho where the Canadian tandem won the tag straps and Triple H tore his quad. Just over a week after that classic tag team encounter, Austin and Benoit went toe to toe on RAW IS WAR from Calgary. During this match, the heel Austin put Benoit in the Sharpshooter and McMahon called for the ring bell (one of the several times the Montreal Screwjob was recreated) to give WWF Champion Austin the victory. Later that week on SmackDown, in Benoit's hometown of Edmonton, Austin granted Benoit a title rematch (much to Vince McMahon's dismay) because he was frustrated that fans and people within the WWF thought that Benoit had his number. What resulted was a rare, all time classic on free television.
