Stone Cold Steve Austin's 6 WWE Title Reigns Ranked Worst To Best
5. WWE Championship (2nd) 29 June 1998 - 27 September 1998
One night after being screwed out of his belt, 'The Texas Rattlesnake' Stunnered and pinned Kane to a tremendous ovation to get it back, and once again rule the Federation.
A confusing - yet fun and exciting - feud with The Undertaker followed, which saw Austin retain over 'The Deadman' at SummerSlam after a weird brief run as World Tag Team Champions. What happened next is what lowers this reign in this writer's opinion - who totally understands that it made for a fantastic storyline - as Austin lost the WWE Championship in a three way at September's Breakdown against Kane and Undertaker, a match in which the brothers could NOT pin each other as a result of Vince McMahon's genius plan to take the belt off of Austin.
It obviously worked, as both challengers pinned 'The Bionic Redneck' at the same time after a Double Chokeslam, which saw the title get vacated and put on the line in the famous Deadly Games tournament at Survivor Series.
Even though it absolutely worked from a long term storyline perspective and no one suffered from it, if we actually forget all of that and focus only on this title reign alone, it had a pretty weird ending where Austin lost by, well, not really losing and putting no one over.
Still pretty damn good, though!
