Stone Cold Steve Austin's 6 WWE Title Reigns Ranked Worst To Best
1. WWE Championship (1st) 29 March 1998 - 28 June 1998
...his very first. How fitting!
After having been the hottest thing in wrestling for almost two years, with the most memorable King of the Ring coronation ever and an epic feud with Bret Hart already under his belt, Steve Austin dropped Shawn Michaels on his crocked back at WrestleMania XIV to become WWE Champion for the first time, therefore launching 'The Austin Era' while Mike Tyson raised his hand.
Considering the fact it helped WWE finally surpass WCW in the Monday Night Wars, the win alone would be enough to consider this reign better than almost every other WWE Championship reign in history. But it didn't stop there, oh hell no!
In the following 91 days, before dropping the title to Kane in a First Blood Match at King of the Ring, Austin would take part in some of the most iconic pro wrestling segments and matches of all time, especially with Mick Foley's alter-ego Dude Love and, of course, the ever-present Vince McMahon - 'The Rattlesnake's perfect antagonist.
Who can ever forget Austin using Vince McMahon's own hand to count his pinfall in order to retain the belt over Foley at Over the Edge, leading to Vince booking him in a First Blood Match against a masked challenger and accomplishing his goal of taking the belt off of him, only to have the beloved Texan continue finding new ways to humiliate the boss?
This reign helped Stone Cold Steve Austin become the biggest star in professional wrestling, therefore helping WWE do its best business in years.
And that... that's the bottom line!
