Straight Outta Dudleyville – The Legacy Of The Dudley Boyz DVD Review: 20 Interesting Observations
8. The Split And Reformation
The 2002 draft - the darkest day in The Dudley Boyz's history.
Vince McMahon approached Bubba and D-Von and told them that he'd need to do something to shake up the draft that saw Superstars assigned to RAW and SmackDown. He said he'd need to do something the fans wouldn't expect.
And when Ric Flair took Bubba to RAW, Vince, who was locked in a heated rivalry with The Nature Boy, got one back and took D-Von to SmackDown. Revered D-Von was born.
D-Von loved playing the role since it was so close to him with his step dad being a preacher. Although, neither Dudley agreed with the move to split the team up. They both thought the team had more legs and that there was so much for them to do.
After a few months apart with singles runs that just didn't work, the pair got back together at Survivor Series 2002. Vince called Bubba over before the show and told them The Dudley Boyz were a team once more. D-Von then ran in and helped Bubba win a tables match against 3-minute warning.
Great news right? Wrong. The tag team ranks in WWE simply weren't what they used to be which meant The Dudleys didn't have anyone to work with. The Hardys had broken up, as had Edge, Christian and the APA.
They had nobody to work with, which would ultimately lead to their departure from the company less than three years later.
