10 Best Wrestling Suplex Variations

6. Tequila Sunrise Suplex

I’m a fan of simplicity when it comes to suplexes, but every now and then a variation comes along that is a little overcomplicated but cool as anything. The Tequila Sunrise suplex is one such variation. Japanese female wrestler Mayumi Ozaka popularised the move, also referred to as a half nelson suplex.

It is another one which seems impossible to take anywhere other than the back of the head. The lifeless doe is clasped in a half nelson, with the free arm draped across the chump’s waist, before they are hurled over the strong attacker’s head dropping the fool on their head. No one wants to be dropped on their head. Ironically, I imagine this suplex feels a bit like the morning after a few too many tequila sunrises.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
