Television's 10 Best "Wrestling Episodes"

3. "The Thrilla In Phila" - Boy Meets World

I was never a fan of this show growing up, and looking back I can't imagine why. The damn Shogun of Harlem showed up as an overprotective dad, and fargin' VADER became a recurring character. Not, like, Vader as "The Smasher" or "The Masked Menace" or one of those generic characters dreamed up by TV writers who don't watch wrestling, either; one of the bullies' dads was straight-up Big Van Vader, jock strap face and all. He's not Leon White, though; in this universe, Vader's real name is Frankie Stecchino, Sr.

Vader's BMW debut was in this season two episode, cheering on his son at an underground grade school grudge match (!) along with Robert Goulet and Yasmine Bleeth. You see, Boy Meets World was apparently under the impression that middle school wrestling takes place in a ring, and can include tag team matches. After his son is defeated, Vader leaps into the ring and attempts to literally murder a child by hurling him bodily from the ring. He's stopped by the intervention of a wise middle school teacher, which is how you can tell that this episode doesn't really take place in wrestling continuity. Frankie can be talked down, but Leon would have powerbombed the kid and then crushed the faculty with a moonsault.

Immortal Dialogue: “It’s all bone up here. You can’t damage anything.”
