It was hard to have hope for The New Day at first. The gospel vignettes, although interesting, didn't seem promising. How could you take a preacher-like setup and apply it to a show like Raw or SmackDown? It doesn't help that at first many fans were branding New Day as the reincarnation of the Nation of Domination. That, plus the sum of its parts wasn't very strong. Xavier Woods hadn't done anything relevant in his WWE career, Kofi Kingston was increasingly put on the backburner, and Big E, despite his talent, hadn't been involved in anything memorable since his grouping with Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee a few years ago. At first, The New Day did indeed suck. They earned those chants. Then the group was allowed to be themselves and go out and have fun, often bringing out a trombone with them. While fans are reluctant to drop the "New Day sucks" rhythmic chanting, it's getting harder and harder to boo these guys. Even as heels, they're very fun to watch, which is hard to say about anything WWE does these days. For a while, New Day lingered on the precipice of fading away, which surely would have ended the careers of Woods, Kingston, and Big E. Now they're closing out Raw. If used more as a faction than a tag team, this trio can go places.
