The Greatest Match From Every WWE SummerSlam Ever
10. 2010 - Kane Vs. Rey Mysterio
It’s fair to say that 2010 is not a vintage SummerSlam. The back half of the show is dominated by the WWE vs. Nexus seven on seven match, which has its moments but goes on far too long and has an ill advised super Cena finish.
Kane vs. Rey Mysterio, meanwhile, is far better a match than it sounds on paper. There’s much of what you’d expect from the pairing - Mysterio the scrappy underdog using his pace to wear down a far larger opponent. Here Kane is as good as he’s been in many a year. He has scouted Rey’s counters, and meets these with counters of his own. It’s a dominant, destructive performance, a high point of his well deserved Heavyweight Championship run.
And then there’s the ending - Kane looks to place a defeated Mysterio in a casket, but when he opens the lid, who should be lying inside but the returning Undertaker. It’s a delightful magic trick by WWE, and with Kane getting the upper hand on his usually dominant brother, he has rarely been sold better as a monster.
