The Warrior was a deeply limited professional wrestler, but when facing an opponent of Rick Rude’s calibre, his qualities could be utilised to create a highly exciting match. The two clashed for the Intercontinental title the previous year, and while the Heavyweight Championship match isn’t at that level in terms of ring work, the sheer spectacle makes this well worth watching.

For all his failings as a technician, Warrior brings a level of intensity to the business that has seldom been bettered. His charge to the ring is pure mania, and the low quality of the old school blue cage actually adds to the drama - it rattles and bends as Warrior shakes it, making him look superhuman.

There’s little actual wrestling here, just two larger than life powerhouses hurling each other against a structure that looks certain to buckle under the pressure. Warrior looks the business as he powers out of Rude’s holds, Rick plays the wily veteran brilliantly, picking his moments to jab and grapple.

Warrior’s power up finish doesn’t age well, but aside from that this is a fun, impactful sprint that hides his limitations well.
