Right place, right time, right guy, right match. There can be few more joyful moments in professional wrestling than the British Bulldog beating brother-in-law Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship, and if you won’t take it from us, just listen to the ovation from the 80,000 fans packing out Wembley Stadium.

Hart claims that Davey Boy Smith was so zonked out on various substances that he was essentially a passenger for this match, and while this doesn’t seem to be entirely accurate when you watch, it only adds to the legacy of this bout.

It’s a brilliantly worked technician vs. strongman encounter, with Hart doing everything he can to sap his opponent’s energy, before Bulldog fires back and demonstrates his brawn, hurling the Hitman across the canvas to a rapturous reception.

It’s a real spectacle, with Diana Hart, sister to Bret, wife to Bulldog, on screen the whole time becoming increasingly distressed. And when Bret puts Davey over, well, if there was a roof on Wembley it’d have come off. It’s nothing but good vibes, and a great match to boot.
