The Greatest Match From Every WWE WrestleMania

18. WrestleMania X-8: The Rock Vs Hulk Hogan

Triple H’s greatest folly may have been demanding to go on after this match. Rock/Hogan should have headlined WrestleMania X-8, and if that wasn’t clear before they locked up, it certainly was by the final bell.

This isn’t a wrestling match so much as a Hollywood spectacle, probably the two biggest names ever to lace boots locking up in a match we never thought we’d see. The action itself isn’t amazing, but it doesn’t need to be. Rock and Hogan play right to the crowd, who are molten hot throughout.

Hogan was supposed to be the heel here, but the audience are having none of it. To Rocky’s credit, he recognises the shift right away, and while he picks up the win, it’s the Hulkster who gets to shine, running through his classic routine to an increasingly rabid reception.

Once Rocky and Hogan deliver a post-match beatdown to the nWo, the Toronto SkyDome is in nirvana. Hogan would go on to fight Vince McMahon the following year (in a match which is far better than it should be), but this clash of the greats may be his greatest WrestleMania moment.
