'Mr. Wonderful' is one of my all-time favourite wrestling nicknames. Paul Orndorff was the man given the name, and his spot in the main event of the first ever WrestleMania means his place in wrestling history is assured. Orndorff was managed by Heenan for many years, including two stints as such in the World Wrestling Federation.

The second came after an iconic heel turn that saw Mr. Wonderful clothesline and piledrive tag team partner Hulk Hogan in 1986. This kicked off the biggest run of Orndorff's career, a high-level feud against the number one name in the entire sport at the time.

It was during this feud that Orndorff injured his arm and worked through it as opposed to getting surgery. At the end of the big-money run, Orndorff took time off to heal the injury, which led to him prematurely announcing his retirement in 1988. This is wrestling of course, and Orndorff would return and retire on a number of occasions.

Paul Orndorff was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, with Bobby Heenan handling the induction.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
