In the first match at WrestleMania X, Bret and Owen Hart put together one of the greatest openers in WWF/WWE pay-per-view history. A classic battle between brothers, Bret was keen to engage in further matches against his sibling over the WWF Heavyweight Title that summer. Vince McMahon relented, allowing the Hart brothers to have quite the rivalry.

Peaking at SummerSlam 1994 in a Steel Cage Match, Bret vs. Owen was a hard-hitting masterpiece. One year earlier, McMahon had attempted to build another megastar akin to Hulk Hogan, but now he was fully behind the idea of in-ring work being king. That was the lasting impression coming out of this cage bout.

To temper this new direction, the WWF booked the hokey Undertaker vs. Undertaker scenario to main event SummerSlam, but it could never top what the Hart family had achieved.

Whilst Owen Hart was never really viewed as a permanent headliner in the company, he did himself proud during his matches against Bret. The natural chemistry between both men was evident, and things looked rosy in Bret's garden going forward.
