The ultimate betrayal. Sure, many could see it coming from a mile off but that didn't take anything away from it. This was a rivalry some five years in the making, from the moment Shawn Michaels and Hunter Hearst Helmsley started the faction known as D-Generation X through Shawn's early retirement and Hunter's ascension to the top of the pro wrestling table.

Michaels had made a return to the professional wrestling world in 2002 as the newest member of the New World Order, but when that didn't quite take off a D-Generation X reunion was on the cards. HBK and HHH came out on RAW to a rapturous reception and proceeded to hit all the classic nights. The shirts were there alongside the catchphrases, but the ending was new to all and sundry.

Triple H decided that instead engaging in this tomfoolery further he would instead kick Michaels in the gut, deliver a Pedigree and stand menacingly over his former best friend. Michaels had his first rivalry back in the game, and Hunter had the greatest moment in a long story of betrayal that is yet to reach its conclusion.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
