The Many Faces Of Goldust Ranked From Worst To Best
11. Black Reign
It isn't exactly fair to kick a man when he is down, but the list of positive things one can say about Dustin's time in TNA as Black Reign is a short one to say the least. Dustin Rhodes returned to TNA in July 2007 but anyone expecting the theatrics to stay away obviously hadn't been paying attention up to this point. Rhodes began talking of a split personality, talk that was followed by an emotional breakdown and his darker side coming out.
In this case his darker side was Black Reign, and Black Reign wasn't pretty. Dustin was terribly out of shape and consistently used in garbage storylines that were overly violent, including TNA's usual suspects Abyss, Raven, and Rhino. Less than a year after returning to the company, Dustin was gone.
By his own admission (in his excellent autobiography), it was during this time that Dustin Runnels hit rock bottom. A painkiller addiction was spiralling out of control and a need for booze and coke certainly didn't help, and after a 4:30 in the morning desperation call to his father in the pouring rain, the bottom was found.
That Dustin Runnels was able to come back from this is a testament to the man and the power of family, not to mention the power of DDP Yoga. If you still don't believe, let the first major supporter of the program convince you otherwise.
