Mankind entered the World Wrestling Federation as a deranged, tortured soul, but as his popularity soared the boiler-room-dwelling chap began to show a more comedic side to his character. He managed to do this whilst staying at the top of the card too which, when you consider the treatment of comedy characters in WWE, is impressive to say the least.

Mankind's story also took him into a stranger-than-strange bromance with none other than the 4am Instagram man himself, The Rock. The two had spent the better part of the Attitude Era blasting each other in the head with chairs, so their relationship was a little jarring to say the least.

The duo came together to battle The Undertaker and Big Show, winning the WWF Tag Team Championships in the process. They would win gold three times but, more importantly, their segments gained RAW some of its highest ever ratings (particularly the 'This is Your Life' segment) and helped to further the WWF's dominance in the Monday Night Wars.

This iteration with Foley was entertaining, but already it felt as though the man's career was winding down. The bromance continues to this day, although I'm not sure if Foley is waking up at 4.33am to the sound of Dwayne Johnson imploring him to chase his dreams.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
