The Many Faces Of Mick Foley Ranked - From Worst To Best

2. Mankind

As a staunch WWF supporter, Mankind was my very first introduction to Mick Foley, and I was a huge fan straight away. Mankind was completely different to anything else in the WWF at the time, both in look and presentation. He didn't look like a professional wrestler but he certainly looked like someone that would have to fight - and hurt people - for a living.

A deranged soul in a strange brown leather mask, the presentation of Mankind was spot-on from the very beginning. His music was eerie and strange, but after he won his matches calming piano music would play instead, furthering the idea of this tortured individual lost in a cruel world.

All of which is a little overly poetic, I suppose, but Mankind caught on with the WWF fans quicker than anyone expected. Mankind slowly morphed into a more human, more comedic character, which saw his popularity rise to the point that he was made WWF Champion.

Mankind was the most unusual megastar in 1990s professional wrestling.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
