In 1997, Hunter finally got rid of his ridiculous aristocrat gimmick and along with Chyna and Rick Rude, joined forces to create D-Generation X. While they were set up to play heels battling the likes of Mankind, The Undertaker and Bret Hart, their anti-establishment ways caught on with a large portion of the fanbase.

Hunter was able to start showing more of his actual personality, and established himself as an upper-midcard act with a big upside. Despite playing a supporting role to Michaels, he got over in his own right with his “Let’s get ready to suck it!” catchphrase and relationship with Chyna.

This was a pivotal time in his career, as with the Attitude Era coming on in full-force, Hunter would have been sunk if he was still forced to play his own act. While management wanted to keep the remaining Kliq members apart on-air, they did the wise thing and paired up the duo because of their natural chemistry and it paid off tremendously.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
