The Monday Night War Debate: 14 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff & Bruce Prichard
8. Hulk Hogan Turning Heel
Bischoff says that he had already approached The Hulkster several times about changing and freshening up his character due to declining interest in him from WCW fans, but that he was always told Brother, until you walk a mile in this red and yellow youll never understand. He says things began to change once Hall and Nash arrived and Hulk saw the way the crowds were reacting to them, and Bischoff claims that Hogan reached out to him and inquired about who the third man was going to be, wanting desperately to fill that role. This is a slightly different version of the story than weve heard before, with most recalling Hulk had to be dragged kicking and screaming into turning heel, with Kevin Sullivan even saying he had to quarantine "The Immortal" in his house and keep him off the grid so that he couldnt be talked out of it. Bischoff does confirm the long-held belief that Sting was the backup plan for being the third man if Hulk had vetoed the angle, and pondering that alternate reality is an interesting exercise for fans.
