The One Tag Team WWE Need To Push In 2019

Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn has been Monday Night Raw's MVP since returning to WWE the night after WrestleMania 35, with the company wisely bringing him back as an irritant heel rather than an underdog babyface.

That post-'Mania Raw started with warm appreciation. A seemingly earnest Zayn was back on TV after a long absence, and looking for an opportunity to prove himself. Out came Intercontinental Champion Finn Bálor. A textbook neat, tidy, and polite face vs. face clash followed, with Bálor bettering Zayn, prompting Sami to flip the switch post-bout.

A blazing diatribe saw Zayn tear into the "toxic" WWE fanbase (appropriate, given how obnoxious the Brooklyn crowd was that evening) with justifiable anger. He has repeated a similar promo every week since then, highlighting how happy he was while off the road, continuing his quest to hold the audience accountable for creating this abhorrent atmosphere.

The segments are great, the character is great, and Sami, himself, is great. He just needs something to do. As entertaining as they are, these segments amount to nothing more than the former 'Underdog From The Underground' shouting at the live crowd. It must grow into something bigger before it becomes stale, and while that might mean putting over the next big babyface singles act, your writer would rather see Sami join forces with his ideological twin than go on another solo run...
