The One Tag Team WWE Need To Push In 2019
The New Daniel Bryan is condescending, obnoxious, patronising, preachy, and everything that occupies the space between these adjectives. So is Sami Zayn. They are incredibly similar characters with slightly different narratives, and there's a strong chance they'll end up stepping on each other's toes as their gimmicks progress.
While Bryan, an extreme environmentalist, would likely take umbrage to Zayn's pre-return jet-setting, it's easy to imagine these guys getting along. There they are, sitting in a Williamsburg bar, talking fanbase toxicity, excessive human consumption, and the merits of a plant-based lifestyle over swigs of $30 IPA. Their differences are enough to ensure each has their own identity, and their similarities guarantee synergy.
This union would work, and it helps that both wrestlers are among the most charismatic in the company. Their journeys are similar, too. Both rose to prominence as incredible babyfaces. Bryan's two greatest triumphs came as the underdog (WrestleMania XXX and last year's comeback), and so did Zayn's (finally wresting the NXT Championship from Neville's clutches). Eventually, tired of accepting the crooked world around them, they snapped in controversial heel turns that took the fanbase off-guard, leading many to question whether or not WWE knew what the hell they were doing.
The answer, in both cases, was a resounding "yes."
Both have worked excellently as tag wrestlers in the past, and while WrestleMania 34 remains the only time they've shared a WWE ring, it's hard to imagine two performers of this calibre having no chemistry. They'd almost certainly find a way to make it work, though there are a couple of barriers.
